Guaranteed progression* from the Undergraduate Foundation Programme / Extended UFP onto:

LLB (Hons) Law

A full-time, University of London qualifying law degree at Undergraduate level.

*To gain a guaranteed place on this degree, FoundationCampus students will follow the Humanities & Social Sciences pathway of the Undergraduate Foundation Programme, and must achieve:

  • Grades AAB in any subject (at least one to be a humanities option)
  • IELTS 7.0 (with no score less than 6.5 in any of the elements).

Guaranteed progression^ from the Master's Foundation Programme onto:

LLM Law (qualifying law degree)

A two year, full-time conversion/qualifying degree at Master’s level, awarded by the University of London.

^To gain a guaranteed place on this degree, FoundationCampus students will follow the Master’s Foundation Programme, and must achieve:

  • Pass grade
  • IELTS score of 7.0 (with no score less than 6.5 in any of the elements)

To be accepted on the Master’s Foundation Programme, students will need to hold an Undergraduate degree in any subject except Law, at 2:ii Hons level (or the NARIC equivalent).

Students who only obtain IELTS 6.5 in externally examined IELTS test but have successfully completed all subject modules with minimum pass marks will be considered for admission on the basis of an interview with admissions tutor from Management and on the strength of written work submitted as part of MFP assessment.

***For progression from the Master’s Foundation Programme (MFP) to these degrees, students will be required to:

  • obtain IELTS 6.5 in externally examined IELTS test, with a minimum of 6.5 in writing
To join the Master’s Foundation Programme (MFP) students must meet the academic entry requirements listed in the London FoundationCampus brochure or on the website, and additionally:
  • Subject of first degree – there is a preference for applicants to hold a first degree in a cognate or related discipline, although other disciplines are possible. Preferred first degrees: Language (any language) studies, Linguistics, Education, Communication, Journalism, Media, Marketing, Advertising.
  • For TESOL/Language Teaching, applicants should already be qualified teachers and need to have completed specific training in language teaching methodology, which can be as part of an UG degree or as a PG or short course, and to have recent and relevant classroom (not one-to-one) language teaching experience.
  • Applicants may be asked to complete a critical review/writing task before they are accepted on the Master's Foundation Programme.
  • Students wishing to progress on to the New Route PhDs need to submit a research proposal (500 words). Students should check our website or brochure to make sure that there is the expertise to supervise their intended research.

Facilities at Birkbeck

  • Birkbeck students have access to world-class facilities, which have recently undergone a £18.5 million revitalisation.
  • The main building houses a five-floor library with 335 study places, and contains a suite of new lecture theatres and teaching rooms. Student services include a modern IT network, Student Centre for advice and information, and on-site catering facilities.
